Happy New Year to you all! I hope that you have all enjoyed the festive season and have managed to play some great golf. Many of you participated in our December Competitions and there was a fantastic turn out in The Restaurant for our New Years Eve celebrations. Lets all hope we have a great 2012…
Course Update
It’s been a mild winter so far (apart from the wind) which has meant that we’ve not had to operate ‘Frost Greens’ on many occasions however we do still ask that members and visitors adhere to the winter rules and use hedgehog wheels on all trollies and keep buggies to the paths. This will help to preserve our course for next season. Our winter maintenance programme is in operation and further details of the works being carried out will be displayed around the clubhouse.
You may have noticed some disease on the Greens. This is due to the mild winter which we’ve had. The disease has been identified and a spraying programme will be completed during the next few weeks which will slowly recover and enhance the Greens. Although at the moment they don’t look great they are still rolling well for this time of the year.

Valentines Day is fast approaching so don’t forget to book The Restaurant for a romantic meal for two. Menu’s and pricing will be available shortly at www.greens-restaurant.com and our Valentines promotions will run for Valentines week with dinner service on Tuesday 14th, Thursday 16th, Friday 17th and Saturday 18th February so now there are no excuses you’ve have missed the date or forgotten!!.
A new menu will be launched in the Clubhouse over the coming weeks. You will be delighted to know that we’ve conducted a review and managed to reduce the price of some of the menu items. We haven’t increased any pricing in the Clubhouse and what’s more it’s back… due to popular demand we’ve re-introduced the hot dispenser so you are now able to purchase hot pies and sausage rolls either to eat in or take away.
Member Renewals
Members whose subscriptions are due should be receiving their renewal information within the next few days. Captains Update
The Committee would like to wish all members a Very Happy & Prosperous New Year.
On the 31st December the handicap committee met to hold its annual review meeting, any members whose handicaps were changed should have now received an email; however there is a list on the main competitions notice board in the club house. It is every member’s duty to ensure they play off the correct handicap, therefore please check the list to see if your handicap has changed.
Most people will be aware of the success the junior section has enjoyed over the last two years; this in the main is down to the efforts of Mark Cotton. Unfortunately Mark has decided to step down from his role as Junior Coordinator from 31st March 2012, the committee would like to thank Mark for all the work he has put in, and would ask that any member who would like to be considered for the role to contact Chris Malton on 07928 403699.
On Saturday 10th March we will be holding our Annual Ball at the Marriott Hotel, over the next two weeks posters will put up in the Club to advertise the event; we are limited to 140 people so tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis. Anyone that has been in the past will know that this is a great night and this year will be no different, if you are interested in attending please contact either Craig or Angela to reserve your tickets.
The last few seniors events of 2011 comprised a very friendly and sporting match against the Ladies, the Xmas Texas Scramble, always a very popular event, won by a team captained by Chris Malton, and a well attended team stableford. It seems amazing that, throughout my time as Captain in 2011, we did not lose one days play to bad weather.
2012 started off with a “3 club” team event, which was won by a team comprising, Geoff Pook, Dick Penn, Bob Ainsworth and Alan Justice.
There are 3 more competitions, including the “Champions Shootout” on 2nd March, before Alan Justice steps down as Captain and hands over the reins to Melvin Hunter.
Thanks to everyone for their superb support in the year.
During January the ladies have tee times booked on Wednesdays and weekends at our usual time. We hope the weather allows us to play some golf even if we only play the 9 holes. Otherwise meet up and enjoy a coffee and chat in the bar.
Entry forms for our Mixed Open in March are available in the pro shop. Spread the word and encourage your golfing friends to enter.
